American Idols “Power” (resources 23 May)

Posted in MCC resources at 12:21 PM by alexlozada

Ben Cachiaras launched our new message series American Idols with an overall introduction to widespread substitute gods in American culture. The second part of the message focused on the false god of “Power.” Because I spent most of Sunday morning  as tech support for the text message live polling software http://v5v5.org written by MCC member Dana Hanna, I only heard part of the message live, so these message notes come from listening to the online audio in my office in the days after:) Though I have the small group study guide, I don’t (yet) have a link for the spoof video that preceded the message. If I find it, I’ll post it 🙂

NYC: great multitude no one could count – especially on the roads!

Metro (NYC) Chr Convention 2010

attenders connecting after sessions at the Metro Chr Convention, including main speaker Clay Perkins (MACU)

Last month for the Metro Christian Convention, this time to drive oldest daughter and Heather as guests for a Long Island-style Sweet Sixteen = long-suffering through NYC traffic 😦 But worth it both times!

Dr James Hamer, minister @ East Northport Christian (where Heather & I served for 10 years), reflects:

The Metro Christian Convention . . . in Queens was truly a microcosm of the picture given by John: “After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:9) With regard to East Northport Christian Church, there is represented in our congregation: Romania, Russia, Italy, Philippines, Germany, Puerto Rico, and plain people like myself! (Maybe missed one or two)

Though the attendance of the Metro is only a tiny fraction of the North American Christian Convention or (larger fraction) of the Eastern Christian Convention , my guess is that proportionally, the Metro is the most ethnically diverse gathering in the Restoration Movement. I hadn’t been back since we moved to Maryland, but seeing many friends from days gone by made it worth the traffic 🙂

God’s Frat Party – “Serve the World” Doulos (resources 16 May)

Posted in MCC resources at 11:32 PM by alexlozada

Ben Cachiaras concluded MCC’s Kappa Delta Pi series with the call to “Serve the World.” For those who want to follow through on the message, here are my personal notes and a small group study guide, as well as a study guide from MCC’s original God’s Frat Party series in Jan 2008 (Ben’s message emphasized different ways of serving in the 2008 message, so some of the details in this study guide don’t apply as well to the 2010 message). This link opens an online audio mp3 window, where you can also download the mp3 or subscribe to MCC’s podcast.

Ben showed this video as an Awareness Test, to emphasize that serving the world means we should see needs that we previously overlooked.

God’s Frat Party “love people” koinonia (resources 9 May)

Posted in better disciples at 11:06 PM by alexlozada

I might blog about last week’s many meetings (on an upcoming technology update @ MCC) some time in the future, but in the meanwhile – once again I apologize for posting my message notes and small group study guide so late 😦

Kudos to MCC’ admin staff on the www.mountainchristian.org website update, but its a “Work In Progress” so some of the regular links are still being updated. Here’s the link to mp3 audio from the Kappa Delta Pi series. No video feed yet, but if / when its posted, I’ll add that.

God’s Frat Party “love God” proskuneo (resources 2 May)

Posted in MCC resources at 1:19 PM by alexlozada

Ethan Magness kick-started MCC’s Kappa Delta Pi Redux messages series with a message on “Love God.” Church and “frat party” seem like a contradiction, but we use the Greek letters Kappa for Koinonia (love people) Delta for doulos (serve the world) Pi for proskuneo (love God) to describe three core values of our church.

Video will be posted as soon as available. Meanwhile, here’s the audio streaming mp3, as well a  small group study guide for Ethan’s message and the two-part guide from the last time we used this series. Also messages notes I wrote while Ethan was speaking.
